7K a year SUMMARY The Housing Specialist, will report to the Program Director of CAIR and Homeless Services and will communicate a vision for staff that reflects FSL and program values and responds to the needs of the community.
The Housing Specialist will assist in moving clients from homelessness to permanent housing.

Responsibilities:
Conduct comprehensive intakes of all clients.
Develop individualized housing plan for each client.
Locate appropriate housing for households who are homeless.
Conduct regular face-to-face contact with clients.
Document all contact with and on behalf of the program participants.
Complete housing inspections in a timely manner.
Arrange forums with outside entities to provide information on topics related to securing and maintaining permanent housing.
Provide additional information/instruction on the skills required to secure and maintain permanent housing to program participants.
Assist participants in the completion of all housing applications and ensure the applications are submitted to housing programs in a timely manner.
Develop new housing resources on a regular basis.
Escort participants to view apartments and other appointments, as needed.
Assist participants in moving into permanent housing (i.
e.
, attend lease signing, ensure utilities are turned on, and coordinate transportation/moving).
Participate in team meetings, case conferences, department meetings, weekly individual supervisory sessions, and staff training.
Complete monthly budgets with clients and regularly work with clients to increase monthly income.
Once clients have moved, address any issues of safety and cleanliness within the home.
Provide ongoing support, crisis intervention and counseling for clients in reaching their goals.
Advocate for client needs.
Demonstrate an understanding of program outcomes, performance indicators and program evaluation tools.
Oversee housing inspections, as needed.
Review lease agreements and be an ongoing liaison between the program and property managers.
Participate in ongoing landlord engagement regarding possible housing opportunities for homeless clients and ensure follow up with difficult or non-compliant landlords.
Determine and document monthly rental subsidies for current clients in budgetary spreadsheet.
Obtain the rental checks, make copies for the client's file, and mail them out to the property management companies in a timely fashion.
Send paperwork to active landlords regarding subsidy agreements and file signed agreements upon return receipt.
Comply with all rules and regulations with regards to FSL property (i.
e.
, agency provided cell phone/laptop) Identify well-qualified individuals that reflect labor market diversity, evaluate staff, and utilize progressive discipline to assist marginal or failing staff improve their work performance.
Understand and demonstrate a commitment to Performance Quality Insurance (PQI) and accreditation with the Council on Accreditation for Children and Family Services (COA).
Answer all emails and phone calls/voicemails within a timely manner.
Attend trainings, as applicable.

Qualifications:
High School Diploma required; Bachelor's Degree in Social Work or a related field is preferred.
At least 3 years' experience in housing and homeless services required.
3 years of supervisory experience preferred.
Prior knowledge of the Suffolk County Department of Social Services is preferred.
Excellent organizational, leadership, and verbal and written communication skills required.
Must possess time-management skills, the ability to multitask, and the ability to work as part of a team.
Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Office required.
Experience with HMIS, Google Apps, and web-based project management software is preferred.
